The African American Museum of Bucks County (AAMBC) is partnering with Parx Casino for a Building Our Dream cocktail reception fundraiser on Thursday, December 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The AAMBC is the only museum dedicated to African American history and culture in Bucks County. Its mission is to promote understanding and appreciation of the African American experience by honoring the  legacy of our African roots to the present day, educating about our shared history and cultural diversity and  highlighting contributions of African Americans in art, culture, politics, sports and other areas of service.

The museum, established in 2014, is run by a committed board of volunteers. Although currently without a  permanent building, the museum brings traveling presentations to schools, libraries, museums, senior centers,  and corporations throughout Bucks County, runs a scholarship program, has created a new video  programming series and displays a temporary exhibit at the Bucks County Visitor Center.

The museum is at a pivotal point in its journey, having been granted a lease by the Bucks County Commissioners for a permanent home at Boone Farm in Middletown Township. The long-standing dream of  the museum board is to build a physical space where the Museum can display its treasured artifacts and offer  special on-site and virtual programs to our schools, the Bucks County community and beyond. The AAMBC is on the cusp of fulfilling that dream. Proceeds from this reception will be dedicated to the renovation of the interior and infrastructure of the two structures on the Boone Farm property. The goal is for both buildings to  be fully restored, furnished and in operation by the end of 2022.

As we emerge from the challenges of the pandemic, this fundraiser to support the new home is more  important than ever. The event, co-presented and hosted by Parx Casino, Parx East Casino Racetrack, 3001  Street Road, Bensalem, PA 19020 and will feature a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, live  music, 2021 Museum honorees and a silent auction. Tickets are $150 per person. 2021 Bucks County honorees will be Dr. Marion Lane, Bucks County professor and historian; Claire Smith, award-winning sports journalist; and the late Sam Snipes, Esq. with the Snipes Family accepting in his honor. Guests will be introduced to the history of the property, learn about the museum’s current and past programs as a mobile museum, and its future goals.

AAMBC President and Executive Director, Linda Salley said: “We are grateful to Parx Casino and our other  supporters who have helped us along the way. We are especially grateful to the Bucks County Commissioners  whose gift of granting us a lease on Boone Farm will enable us to achieve our dream of a permanent home in  Bucks County.”

Ron Davis, Director of Diversity and Community Development at Parx Casino added: “We are proud to host  the African American Museum of Bucks County and proud of all their efforts to share the African American  legacy and experience in Bucks County.”
