Nationwide — Meet Tracy Nicole Harper, the owner and CEO of Through Her Eyes Trucking Company LLC, a Black-owned business based in Houston, Texas. Despite being a victim of domestic violence and an ex-offender, she obtained her CDL license to drive commercial trucks about 11 years ago, and now she is on a mission to help other disadvantaged women do the same.
Tracy, who is 38-years-old, has launched a scholarship program via her foundation that will give away financial awards of $4,350 to three different women who have an interest in driving trucks and also who had to battle domestic violence, drug abuse, human trafficking, and/or an ex-offender status.
“I recognize the immense potential and strength of women who have overcome significant obstacles in their lives,” said Tracy. “My scholarship program aims to enable these women to pursue their dreams in the trucking industry and create a brighter future for themselves and their families.”
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be a female applicant, must be at least 21 years old, must reside in the United States, and must possess a valid driver’s license.
In addition, applicants must provide two letters of recommendation, must have experienced trauma related to the above-mentioned challenges, must not have any pending criminal matters, must have a letter of acceptance from a creditable trucking school of your choice, and must be able to present proof of enrollment in the form of a tuition fee. (A receipt must be presented before award is disbursed.)
Finally, applicants must write a 2-page essay explaining who you are, the obstacles that you have overcome in your life, why you deserve this scholarship, and how you plan on paying it forward.
How to apply:
Interested women can submit their application through the online form available at HerEyesTrucking.com/scholarship-program or they can email their essay and completed application to info@hereyestrucking.com.
The application period is now open, and the deadline for submissions is October 1, 2023, at 4pm.
A selection committee of representatives from Through Her Eyes Foundation will review all applications based on their personal stories, commitment to the trucking industry, and potential for success.
The scholarship recipients will be selected through a live drawing held in the second week of December, with the date and time to be announced. The funds will be directly disbursed to the accredited trucking school of each recipient’s choice during the last week of December.
