Can’t you believe your eyes? Believe! The Illusion Museum opens in Philadelphia. And that’s not the only new thing planned in the area. Here are two new ice cream parlors and a brewery pub and restaurant scoop.
Museum of Illusions
Keep an eye on the Museum of Illusions. It will open on 401 Market Street in the Old Town this fall. The museum hosts 80 visual and educational exhibits, including holograms, stereograms and optical illusions. It may sound like all the fun and games, but it’s also educational. Visitors can learn about vision, perception, and the human brain and see first-hand how the eyes can deceive the mind. The hands-on, immersive experience at this 5,000-square-foot exhibit is designed to be fun and playful. It is suitable for all ages.
There are more than 20 similar museums around the world. Perhaps the museum arrived in the city of Brotherly Love by Rob Cooper, who is in charge of the museum’s parent company, LOL Entertainment. He is from Philadelphia, who attended Pennsylvania State University and then Villanova.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams will open in Rittenhouse 19th & Chestnut and Fishtown 1332 Frankford. Jeni’s is known for using direct and fair trade ingredients and milk from family-owned dairy farms. In addition to flavors such as wedding cakes, cold brews with coconut cream, lemon bars and skillet cinnamon rolls, you can’t miss dairy-free flavors such as caramel peacan sticky buns.
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream will open at what used to be Capogiro on 13th & Sansom in Midtown Village. Van Leeuwen started out as a food truck in NYC and is now expanding into Philadelphia with flavors such as carrot cake donuts, peanut butter brownie chips and Earl Gray tea. Van Leeuwen also offers vegan ice cream, cashew milk ice cream and oat milk ice cream. It is scheduled to open in August.

Victory Brewing opens a large brew pub on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in 1776. There was TGI Friday’s here. The 14,000-square-foot brewery has two inner bars, an outer bar with sidewalk seats, and a rooftop patio. We are planning a midsummer opening. And the donut icing is the federal donut that opens behind it.
Tap Details: The local brewery, Descartes Brewery, will open before and after Labor Day in South Philadelphia, directly opposite Pats and Geno. In Perkasie, Mystic Ways Brewing will open in late summer and Van Ruth Brewing by the father / son team will open in the fall.
Recently opened are Langhorne, Reading Terminal Market, and Aristaeus Craft Brewing Co, an open-concept nano-brewery in the liberation of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Libations sells products from more than 20 Pennsylvania distilleries, wineries and ciders in the Reading Terminal Market. Star and Lantern, a Speakeasy-style cocktail bar with an important mission, is set to open in Kennett Square in the fall. The bar aims to shed light on the underground railroad, local abolitionists, and the struggle for the freedom of African Americans. This takes place in the basement, a menu of southern and local small plates, and a cocktail in honor of Tim Brock, a former slave man who published one of the country’s first cocktail books in 1917.
Located at Pencoid Landing’s steelworks, Residence Inn Philadelphia Barasinwid already has a new restaurant, The Landing Kitchen, by top chef winner Nicholas Elmi, and will soon have a second restaurant. Elumi’s second on-site restaurant, Lark, is an upscale Mediterranean dining restaurant with a roof terrace. It will open this summer.
And there is also a recently opened restaurant.
Pennsylvania Libation is not the only new kid in the Reading Terminal Market block. El Merkury and Sweet T’s Bakery opened earlier this summer. In late June, the Filipino fusion restaurant Tambayan will open, offering breakfast, all-day specials and desserts. Look for items made in Ube, a Japanese yam native to the Philippines that claims a myriad of health benefits.
Borscht Belt Delicatessen, a New York-style deli, recently opened in Stockton, NJ. Consider fresh rocks, bagels, pickles, matzo ball soup, pile high pastrami sandwiches, and Jewish baked goods. Jewish-American merchandise brought by Nick Liberato (Paramount Network’s Bar Rescue, Netflix’s Restaurant on the Edge) and Michael Dalewitz (Mindful Mentor) in collaboration with Steve Lau ..
A new restaurant, Sor Ynez, by Jill Weber and her team (Jet Wine Bar, Rex 1516, Cafe Ynez) has opened in the Next Fab building, a cool maker space in West Kensington with the new Neon Museum. Executive Chef Alex Theres serves vibrant Mexican cuisine with a focus on the sustainable future of our time. The menu is vegetarian and the bars are mostly mezcal.
The Revival Pizza Pub recently opened in Chester Springs. The large and stylish restaurant has a large, bright interior and a large outdoor café. In addition to pizza, the restaurant serves pasta, sandwiches and salads, including gluten-free and vegan options, and has a full-fledged bar.
General Tsuo’s House on 1720 Sansom Street has opened. The restaurant at Ritten House Square specializes in Sichuan cuisine, dim sum and noodles, and has a full-fledged bar.
