SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The CZU August Lightning Complex fire continues burning in Southern San Mateo and Northern Santa Cruz counties in the heavy timber and thick undergrowth.
As of Saturday night, the blaze had consumed 67,000 acres with 5 percent containment, Cal Fire reported.
Approximately 77,000 people have been evacuated since the fire broke out Aug. 17. See the updated list of evacuation orders and warnings here. The list includes evacuation shelter locations.
“Fire activity may dictate more evacuations and road closures in the days to come,” Cal Fire warned Saturday. “Continued hot and dry weather is forecasted for the remainder of the weekend and into next week.”
A fire weather watch remains in effect through Tuesday with dry lightning and dangerous outflow winds.
Damage Inspection Teams have begun to survey burn areas. At least 97 structures have been destroyed but Cal Fire warned the number may change as teams continue surveying.
The agency said firefighting resources are limited due to the number of blazes burning throughout California, and limited visibility due to smoke is hampering aircraft assault on flames.
