Pasadena, CA — Tonya Fairley had a rough start; She was born to drug-addicted parents and spent most of her childhood in foster care. However, that didn’t stop her from becoming the successful owner of two hair salons, and the founder of Strandz Hydro-Curlz – a line of vegan, cruelty-free hair care products for today’s generation.

She comments, “I wanted to create a product that was clean, had good ingredients and strayed away from the toxins as much as possible. As a woman of color, I wanted my fellow curly-haired folks to feel taken care of and seen.”

Tonya, who has been a hairstylist for 30 years, understands that women and men everywhere, with a variety of different curl patterns, are looking for ways to not only tame their hair but make their curls stand out.

Hydro-Curlz contains murumuru butter, watercress oil, pumpkin seed oil, bamboo extract, and amla powder, which are all designed to moisturize and strengthen the hair. Strandz Unlimited is sulfate, silicone, paraben, and phthalate-free as well as free of artificial colors and fragrances.

Strandz Unlimited is a female, Black-owned company made in the U.S.A.

About the business:
Tonya Fairley founded Strandz Hair in 2013 in Pasadena, CA. The second salon was established in Covina, CA in 2017, while her hair loss center was founded in 2017. Tonya’s current clientele is 95% natural curlz (2a-4c).

About the founder:
Born in Pasadena, CA to drug-addicted parents, Tonya spent most of her childhood helping to care for her younger brother until they were placed in foster care. While in foster care she was mentored and made to believe in the power she possessed because of her love of learning. Not only does Tonya currently own two salons and a hair loss center, but she also uses her time to speak, train, and coach.

Through her leadership and personal development company, Root Success Coaching, she gives back to entrepreneurs (potential or current) to help them establish a roadmap to success. Tonya has also co-authored three books – Destimony: The Journey to Me on the Road to I Am and Pray, Pursue, Persist: 12 Testimonies of Women Who Soar Through Prayer and The Journey to being a Fatherless Daughter: Hope and Healing Beyond Fatherlessness.
