LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Historic The Musicians’ Green Book Documentary headlines Jazz Artist Josephine Beavers. Joining Josephine will be an array of memorable Guest Stars including Darlene Love, Little Anthony, Howard Hewett and Johnny Britt performing classic songs along with candid interviews with notable musicians who were a part of the Southern one-night circuit. The TV Trailer is now available to view and the Special airs Nationally on PBS affiliates beginning Saturday, November 26th and continuing through PBS’ December Pledge month. Broadcast was announced jointly today by PBS and Grand Songbook Media’s CEO & Docu EXP, Ed Vodicka.

The Musicians’ Green Book Documentary celebrates the soulful, joyous and vibrant Jazz, R&B and Soul music of African American artists who, during segregation, created the foundation of modern American music. The documentary spotlights the genius and excellence of legendary Black artists Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Little Richard and Sam Cooke, among others, who toured the Southern one-night circuit on their road to success and kept The Apollo, Howard Theatres and Harlem’s Savoy Ballroom jumping with joy.

According to Josephine, “It’s all about the Struggle and Endurance of these talented artists during those very dangerous and segregated times. Those situations were tempered by LOVE from the community and LOVE of the music by the world at large. The LOVE of the music will be passed on to the next generations,” concluded Beavers.

Victor Hugo Green’s Negro Traveler’s Green Book was a directory of lodgings, restaurants and entertainment venues where African Americans were safe and welcomed. Green’s book was a guide to a parallel world of vibrant Black neighborhoods like NYC’s Harlem, Chicago’s Bronzeville and D.C.’s U Street, where Black entrepreneurs created thriving businesses that served and sustained Black patrons and artists.
