J Balvin and the African Entertainment Music Awards USA have come under fire after the Colombian singer was given the Afro Latino award.
Many people took to Twitter after the award was announced to share their thoughts, with one person writing: “J balvin, a white latino, shouldn’t have accepted this award over actual afro-latine artists.”

J Balvin receives Afro Latino music award
On December 26th, J Balvin received the award for Afro Latino Artist of the Year at the African Entertainment Music Awards USA.
The AEAUSA describes itself as a Non-Profit Organisation established in New Jersey with the aim of supporting, celebrating, and uplifting African Entertainment. The website reads:
“We use entertainment as a platform, to showcase an Africa that is united, self-sufficient, and willing, and able to evoke social change that matters most in the communities of Africans all over the world.”
At this year’s awards, Wiz Kid picked up the award for Best Male Artist, and Tems was awarded Best Female Artist. Meanwhile, Best Group was won by R2 bees, and Artist of the Year by Diamond Platnumz.
