BLACK WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

The Solano/Napa Chapter of Black Women Organized for Political Action will host a 2020 Virtual Empowerment Summit on Sat., June 27, from 10 a.m. to Noon.

The theme is “Black Women Activating our Collective Power.”

Keynote speaker is Dr. Jeanine Abrams McClean, Vice President of Fair Counts. McClean will join guest speakers Tamara Rasberry, Assistant Deputy, Secretary of State, and Representative Shirley Weber (D-San Diego), author of legislative bills ACA 5 (affirmative action) and AB 3121 (Reparations for African Americans). Suisun City Mayor, Lori Wilson, will serve as moderator.

TINY HOMES

BoaVida Communities announced the grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting of Glen Cove Estates, an exclusive 21-site manufactured tiny home 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  July 11, 1161 Benicia Road.

Guests will be required to sign in at entry and are asked to wear a mask while attending the event. BoaVida has implemented a social distancing plan for home showings and after interested guests complete a walk through, the homes will be sanitized. Remember to practice social distancing at the grand opening by staying 6 feet apart from other guests, and if you feel ill, please stay home.

NAPA PRIDE

Napa Valley Pride Cruise Night will take place on Sat. June 27, 7 p.m., on Jefferson Street between Trancas St. and Downtown Napa. The community is encouraged to “Cruise the J” to support Napa Valley Pride, while listening to a special Pride Broadcast on 99.3 The Vine between 7 and 9 p.m. Cruisers and listeners at home will be provided information on supporting LGBTQ Connection Napa by donating online at lgbtqconnection.org during the Pride Cruise celebration. Pride Cruise Night Napa Valley is sponsored in part by AVOW, Blue Water Day Spa, Cellar Collections, Napa Nuts, Napa Valley Register, The Q Restaurant & Bar and 99.3 The Vine.

Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles for a chance to win “best decorated car” awards in several categories. The official after party, beginning at 9 p.m., will be at the The Hollywood Room at Napa Valley Distillery, located at 2485 Stockton Street off California Blvd. in Napa. Masks and social distancing will be in effect.

UC DAVIS TRIO HONORED

Three UC Davis-affiliated communication specialists won a total of six writing or photography awards in a global competition hosted by the international Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences (ACE).

Steve Elliott, communications coordinator for the Western Integrated Pest Management Center, Davis, won one silver (second-place) and two bronze (third-place) for his writing and photography; Kathy Keatley Garvey, communications specialist for the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology, two silvers for her writing and photography; and Diane Nelson, communication specialist for the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, won a bronze for her writing.
