Kaye’s Pints and Scoops storefront is now open in Whitehaven just in time for summer.

The shop at 2089 Winchester, which offers hand-churned pints of ice cream, officially opened May 13.

Owner Kiamesha Wilson originally hoped for a late summer 2021 opening, but unexpected renovation and supply chain delays bumped that back.

Wilson said she’s excited to be out of the renovation phase and move more into business operations, focusing on sales and branding.

“We’ve been open three weekends now,” she said. “So we’ve had really good traffic. Of course, we’re definitely looking for that to increase over time and over the summer.”

In its third week, the scoop shop sold out of its most popular flavors, salted caramel and strawberry fields.

“I am happy to say that people love it. I get messages all the time about, ‘Oh, this tastes so good.’ ‘This is so creamy.’ ‘The flavor is so good.’ ‘This is the best ice cream I’ve had,'” Wilson said of her customer reviews. “I’m like, ‘Score!’ because it only gets better from here. People have been very positive about it. We get good feedback all the time, so that’s exciting too.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Wilson picked up ice cream-making as a hobby with the ice cream maker her sister gifted to her. After glowing reviews and numerous suggestions from family and friends, she started making her ice cream to sell.

Moving from a home business to the opening of the store is just Wilson’s first step. Over the next two months, the Kaye’s Pints and Scoops will begin selling scoops in its signature pink cones and hosting events, such as ice cream-making parties in the creamery.

Wilson’s ultimate goal for the creamery is to wholesale products to local markets, restaurants, events and festivals. With the growth Wilson expects, maintaining her Whitehaven location was integral to her business. Her pink pints can already be found at Curb Market at Crosstown Concourse.

“For me personally, I’m most excited about being an entrepreneur and bringing something different to Memphis. I’m one of the only African American women light manufacturing ice cream plants in Memphis, in Tennessee,” Wilson said. “I’m also most excited about everybody who gets to taste Kaye’s Pints and Scoops. It’s gonna vary and people are going to enjoy it. So I’m just excited about bringing something new to Memphis.”

Wilson is especially grateful for her friends, family and the Whitehaven community for their support of her business.

“We’ve done the work and we’re ready to serve. And we’re really happy for it. We’re really excited about what’s to come,” she said. “I’m excited and happy to be a part of bringing Whitehaven back to what it used to be in some ways.”

Kaye’s Pints and Scoops will celebrate its grand opening June 11 with free scoops, yard games and pints available for purchase.
