For El Paso sports fans, November 6 was going to be a great sports day. The UTEP Miners were supposed to kick off a game against UTSA at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, the El Paso Locomotive were going to host the first playoff match of 2021 at Southwest University Park with their match beginning at 7:30 Saturday evening, and then the night would wrap up with a boxing match between Canelo Álvarez and Caleb Plant. Boxing matches usually start pretty late at night so they were expected to get into the ring between 9 and 10 o’clock Saturday night. It was going to be great, and then ESPN stepped in.
RESCHEDULED UTEP KICK OFF
ESPN2 announced that they were going to move the UTEP vs UTSA game to 8:15 because the matchup is expected to be a great game and there is something like some sort of title on the line or something like that. You know I’m not a sports girl, I just know that the El Paso Locomotive FC decided that they would help out the El Paso sports fans who were trying to figure out how they were going to be able to watch their match, the UTEP game, and the Canelo fight within just a few hours of each other. The Locomotive have taken one for the team, see what I did there, and rescheduled their Saturday match for Friday night.
BIG MOVE
The Locomotive announced on Tuesday morning that they will move their match to Friday, November 5 with a kickoff time of 7:30 p.m. to avoid “both teams playing simultaneously.” That is an amazing move by the Locomotive. It not only makes things easier for the sports fans but it gives Locomotive fans the chance to fill the Sun Bowl for the ESPN2 broadcast the night after a great match at the SUP. A super classy move by the Locomotive and one that they should be applauded for.

If you’ve already gotten your tickets for the playoff match, you don’t have to do anything. Your tickets will be honored for the November 5 date.
