The Lyon County Museum exhibit “Making Lyon County Home” is among seven museum projects to be honored by the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums.
The Lyon County Historical Society was one of seven history projects to be honored by the Minnesota Alliance of Local History Museums at its annual meeting and conference on Thursday.
In its 11th year, the event will be held virtually for the first time since pausing in 2020. Award recipients’ completed projects or achieved the criteria for lifetime achievement in 2019 and 2020.
“While delayed, we honor them for their tremendous projects and contributions to the Minnesota local history field,” History Awards Committee Chair Adam Smith said. He is an archives technician with Minnesota State University, Mankato Library Services.
The Lyon County Museum will receive an award for the exhibit “Making Lyon County Home.”
The other award winners:
• Anoka County Historical Society (Anoka) for their online program, “An Un-Wise Murder.”
• Anoka County Historical Society (Anoka) for their documentary, “We’re In This Together.” *2020
• Carver County Historical Society (Waconia) for their publication, “Diaries of Andrew Peterson, Swedish-American Horticulturalist, 1850-1898.” *2020
• Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery for their permanent exhibit, “Unbreakable: Celebrating the Resilience of African Americans in Minnesota.” *2020
• St. Louis County Historical Society (Duluth) for their publication, “Taconite — New Life for Minnesota’s Iron Range: The History of Erie Mining Company.”
• St. Louis County Historical Society (Duluth) and author Kathleen M. Cargill on their publication, “The Minnesota Beautician and Photographer Who Went to War: Monnie Paltmatier and Al Payton. A detailed Reference and Guidebook for Genealogy Research.”
Sue Garwood of the Faribault will receive the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award.
