Most boards are created by selecting people already known to the company leadership, and most often, they are just like the people already in company leadership positions. Known as affinity bias, we tend to like people like us. Research shows, though, that if you want innovation or need awareness of potential threats to your business, you need to bring people together who are different. They can also help identify new opportunities.
