Census reports 1870: Nevada is credited with a total of 58,711 people. Whites number 38,950, African Americans 357, Chinese 3,152, and Native Americans 16,213. The State is also credited with 18,652 male citizens 21 years of age and upward.

Mrs. Curry’s social: A pleasant affair was given at the residence of Mrs. Curry the people of Carson appreciate so well. It was devoted to the interests of the Presbyterian Church, but others were welcome and all were enthusiastic over the merry making and joys of the occasion. It was conspired to make the evening a social one of joy to all, and of these Mrs. Curry herself was the most active of all.

Lady Hesketh: Following the Grafton hounds she jumped a brook, and her horse became entangled in a barbed wire fence. She was in a very perilous position but escaped without serious injury. Lady Hesketh, formerly Miss Florence Emily Sharon, is the daughter of the late William Sharon, United States Senator from Nevada. (London Dispatch)

In jail: C. C. Davis went into the Methodist church and commenced praying in such a vociferous manner that he was ousted by some brethren. He then pelted the church with stones, breaking windows. He is in trouble again. Night before last he made himself too numerous among some of the private residences on Nevada street. Constable Sam Hodgkinson snatched him. He was taken to court, fined $50 and in default of payment was sent to jail.

The mattresses are all now so thin that the prickly hair stuffing sticks through, and a man lies down to sleep on them and imagines he is on a cactus bed.
