SPARTANBURG — Locals and visitors alike will soon have a place to shop for Spartanburg-themed apparel and goods.
Burg Apparel is set to officially open its first retail location Nov. 17 along the Mary Black Rail Trail at 200 Forest Ave. The grand opening event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m.
“We just want to create a fun, memorable spot for Spartanburgers that are proud or people that aren’t from here that come stop in and want their little piece of memorabilia or something that said they visited this area,” said Lanie Carter, owner of Burg Apparel and Arrowhead Design Group.
Arrowhead Design Group was created six years ago and is the parent company of Burg Apparel. The marketing and graphic design company specializes in helping local, small businesses market and brand themselves and does marketing for events. The company partners with local printers and design shops.
Carter worked for a tech company and a print design company. She wanted to bring the digital and print worlds together, so she started Arrowhead Design Group.
Burg Apparel has been around for three years. Carter said she created Burg Apparel after seeing the growth Spartanburg was experiencing and wanted people in the area to have merchandise that celebrated their city. In addition to being sold online, items from Burg Apparel were sold inside of Arrowhead Design Group’s office space. Carter said she is excited to finally have a location specifically for Burg Apparel.
“We hope to have a lot of valuable things that people would want to have for gifts, ” Carter said. “One of the main things we see is gifts because people are proud of Spartanburg, proud of what it’s becoming and where it’s come from to where it is now.”
Arrowhead Design Company owns the rights to the term “BURG,” and sells items online for other burg cities. Some cities include Fredericksburg, Texas, Gatlinburg, Tenn., Williamsburg, Va. and St. Petersburg, Fla.
The store will sell t-shirts, beanies, patch caps, hoodies, jackets, coffee mugs, baby onesies, teddy bears and water bottles. Carter said Burg Apparel will also sell items for active people and yoga-related items.
She plans to carry items from local vendors so that customers can create gift baskets. The store will be open on Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
