CENTER CITY, Minn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Turning Point Inc., an African American addiction treatment provider with 45 years of experience serving the Twin Cities, and the Minnesota-headquartered Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, a force of healing and hope nationally, have initiated a collaborative relationship to share knowledge, tools and best practices and improve both organizations’ abilities to provide quality, accessible care to more people.
The two nonprofits announced today that Turning Point, whose culturally-specific, recovery-oriented system of care is based in Minneapolis, has joined the Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network; that the two organizations are consulting and supporting each other on many projects; and that their leaders are exploring additional ways to collaborate long-term as both work to address an addiction and mental health crisis that has grown worse amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After years of working together on advocacy and various collaborative initiatives and trainings, all of us at Turning Point are excited to take the relationship to a new level on behalf of the individuals, families and communities we both aim to serve,” said Peter Hayden, PhD, founder and CEO of Turning Point Inc., which is run by African American leaders and governed by a mostly African American board, and provides culturally-specific substance use disorder treatment, housing, support services and training to adults. “Both organizations have a lot to offer one another, and that makes for an ideal partnership.”
“We are already learning a lot from our friends at Turning Point as we seek to build more bridges and broaden Hazelden Betty Ford’s banner to reach more people,” added Nick Motu, vice president and chief external officer at Hazelden Betty Ford, the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of addiction treatment, co-occurring mental health care, recovery resources and related prevention and education services. “Turning Point will continue to be invaluable to our efforts to bolster cultural responsiveness and inclusivity within our system of care, and we’re happy to share Hazelden Betty Ford’s resources to assist in Turning Point’s efforts to expand their continuum of care.”
The Hazelden Betty Ford Patient Care Network, launched in 2017 and the first of its kind in the addiction treatment specialty, is comprised of health care providers across the nation working together to expand services, elevate quality and improve patient outcomes. The network includes hundreds of “preferred providers,” 20 collaborative members including Turning Point, and two affiliates—Emory Healthcare in Atlanta and Arcadia Trails INTEGRIS in Oklahoma, each of which has a higher-level contractual partnership with Hazelden Betty Ford.
