Two prominent names in the golf world, Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia have been at war for a long time. Their feud started during the penultimate day of The Players’ Championship in 2013. And since then, things have not been on the best terms for the duo. Now that they both are on different tours might reduce the heat; however, that doesn’t seem the case.

Therefore, the comments by the Spanish golfer taking a jab at the golf legend did not turn out well. His attempts at being funny and slick did not work, and it backfired. The fans criticized the comments by Sergio Garcia on Tiger Woods in 2013. According to Woods, the jab at him was wrong and hurtful on many levels. It did not just hurt him, but the sentiments of other people. Spanish golfer was asked once if he would invite former no.1 for dinner during the US Open 2013. Garcia said, “We’ll be having him round every night… and serving him fried chicken.”

The comment was not accepted by anyone positively. Fried chicken is a typical American South dish. However, if it is used about African-Americans, the meaning implied is negative and stereotypical. Therefore, Woods was hurt and not just disappointed. He tweeted on his official account, “The comment that was made wasn’t silly. It was wrong, hurtful, and clearly inappropriate.”

However, the major championship winner was sure that there must be a sense of regret and understanding that Garcia had made a mistake. The comment was inappropriate, and he was convinced that the LIV defector was aware of it. And he made it clear that he did not want to take this public war of words and tried to end it then and there. He said, “I’m confident that there is real regret that the remark was made.”

He said, “I can’t say sorry enough. I would also like to say sorry to the European Tour and my Ryder Cup teammates for taking the shine away from a wonderful dinner that we all enjoyed to that point.”
