The hospital was originally founded by Norwegian immigrants serving a Humboldt Park community made up predominantly of Scandinavians and Germans. Today, it treats “a majority Puerto Rican and Mexican population, with some African Americans and some Caucasians,” Sanchez said.
The rebranding effort follows last month’s renaming of safety net Sinai Health System to Sinai Chicago, which has launched a $40 million outpatient center across the street from Mount Sinai Hospital. In 2018, Swedish Covenant Hospital’s rebranding to Swedish Hospital emphasized its services beyond the inpatient setting. It’s now part of NorthShore University HealthSystem.
Humboldt Park Health is focusing on partnerships in the community that impact “health and wellness, rather than just illness and emergency care,” said Sanchez, including plans to expand its outpatient services in conjunction with federally qualified health center Near North Health Service in Logan Square.
The name change has been under consideration for three years, according to a statement.
