Library open by appointment
Patrons can make an appointment for a 50-minute session to browse on the first floor, use the copier/FAX machine or visit the Youth Services Department. Reservations can be made online or by calling the library at 978-658-2967. Per the governor’s directive, all patrons over the age of 2 are required to wear masks while in the library. Patrons will also be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the library. Patrons can also continue to utilize curbside service from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Library on the Lawn offers outside browsing from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday and 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Adult programs
Library on the Lawn: 10 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and 5-7 p.m. Thursdays. Would you like to browse and checkout books and DVDs? Be sure to stop by the front of the library to peruse carts of adult, teen and children’s materials. Masks are required, and staff ask all to respect social distancing. This event will not take place during inclement weather.
Author Talk — Kyle Mills (Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp Series): 10:30 a.m. Sept. 19. In this Zoom webinar, bestselling author Kyle Mills will discuss his brand new book “Total Power,” the latest in the popular Mitch Rapp series created by the late Vince Flynn. Kyle Mills is the No. 1 New York Times bestselling author of 19 political thrillers, including “Red War” for Vince Flynn and “The Patriot Attack” for Robert Ludlum. Mills has now written six books for the popular Mitch Rapp series, carrying on the beloved character created by the late Vince Flynn.
Creative Writing Skills Group: 7 p.m. Sept. 22. Learn and apply creative writing tips, tools and techniques shared by published authors and other writing experts. Open to all who want to improve their creative writing skills and get their work published. Led by local writing enthusiast Barbara Alevras.
Well Read Wednesday Book Group: 10 a.m. Sept. 23. This book group discusses contemporary books, both fiction and nonfiction, led by Library Director Tina Stewart. This month’s book is “Say I’m Dead,” by E. Delores Johnson.
Author Talk — Terry Virts: 7 p.m. Sept. 23. Bestselling author and astronaut Terry Virts will discuss his new book, “How To Astronaut: An Insider’s Guide to Leaving Planet Earth,” in conversation with moderator J. Kelly Beatty in this Zoom webinar.
Phillis Wheatley Lecture with Vincent Carretta: 7 p.m. Sept. 24. Phillis Wheatley was a pioneer of African British, African American and American literature. Kidnapped from West Africa as a child and enslaved in Boston, Phillis Wheatley became the first English-speaking author of African descent to publish a book of poems in 1773. Phillis is believed to have lived in Wilmington with her husband John Peters in 1780. Vincent Carretta, scholar and author of “Phillis Wheatley: Biography of a Genius in Bondage” will discuss Wheatley’s works, life and legacy.
Antiracism Doc Talk — ‘Freedom Riders’: 1 p.m. Sept. 25. First, watch “Freedom Riders” on Hoopla. It shows how from May until December 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives — many endured savage beatings and imprisonment — for simply traveling together on buses as they journeyed through the Deep South. Then, join technology librarian, Brad McKenna, to share your thoughts about it.
Author Talk — Eleanor Herman: 7 p.m. Sept. 25. Bestselling author Eleanor Herman will discuss her brand new book “Sex with Presidents: The Ins and Outs of Love and Lust in the White House” in this Zoom webinar.
One on One Virtual Tech Help with Brad: 10 a.m. Tuesdays. If you are having an issue with a piece of technology or have some questions about something before you go out and buy it, register for a one-on-one session with technology librarian Brad McKenna.
Youth programs
Animal Crossing New Horizons with One Up Games: 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Play Animal Crossing live with other players for some digital interaction. Games include Musical Chairs, Hide n Seek, Tag, and more! Participants must have their own Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Online and a copy of the game.
College Financial Aid with James Femia: 7 p.m. Sept. 22. James Femia, a certified college planning specialist with the National Institute of Certified Financial Planners, presents this free workshop addressing the financial aid process, necessary paperwork and various strategies for paying for college.
Fortnite Solos Tournament with One Up Games: 2 p.m. Sept. 26. Fortnite Tournaments have been taken to the next level! See how you measure up again other local battle royale competitors in this free Private Custom Matchmaking Tournament, courtesy of One Up Games and Epic Games! Preschool Storytime: 10 a.m. Tuesdays. This storytime for preschoolers includes books, rhymes and music. Ages 3-5.
Time for Twos: 10 a.m. Wednesdays. This storytime for 2-year-olds includes books, rhymes, music and movement.
Baby Time: 10 a.m. Thursdays. This program of songs, rhymes, games and picture books is for babies under the age of 2 years and their caregivers.
